Description

Studio Showing The BODHI PROJECT Dance Company is presenting an excerpt of "Ubuntu" by choreographer Sita Ostheimer The piece “Ubuntu” – a simple word meaning “I am because of who we are” – is based on a philosophy from the Southern African region, and is often translated as “humanity towards others”. In “Ubuntu” the dancers are looking at their lifes, most of the time they are unsure if it is a past, present or a future life. They try to collect moments in their memories, and look at them again and again as if looking at a photo album of ones life. Sita’s choreography brings light to these captured moments, until they slip away again in the darkness. Expressive fluent, sensual, and earthy movements go together with soloists and groups, which appear wedded with light and darkness. The dance work which is closely linked to light design and music, was newly developed during a four weeks collaboration of Sita Ostheimer with seven young dancers of BODHI PROJECT, an international repertory company situated in Salzburg, and was premiered at the New Faces New Dances festival in February 2016 in Salzburg.
